Red String of Fate

My creative response after watching the movie, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”. Do not read if you haven’t watched the movie/read the book but would like to!

*SPOILERS*

Two people connected by red thread are said to be destined lovers.

Regardless of place, time, or circumstances… the string will stretch, tangle or even fray but cease to snap.

Called the Red String of Fate, it was but only a myth Jacob wished so severely to be true.

There was… Something.

Something that was missing.

Sometimes it would come in the form of simply just a broken smile, or a shaky laugh or… a silent tear that would creep down his cheek, agonizingly slow.

Sometimes it even began with the meeting of eyes from across the street as citizens filtered by, until the eyes that were so enchanting decided to disappear into the ordinary crowd. There were touches of familiar sensations or flashes of loving memories…

There was something missing.

A sinking feeling often came from the rain as water droplets landed like tiny pin pricks, stabbing at his skin. The feeling would bring a shiver to his spine and tears to fall down his cheeks. He would look up to the sky and take a deep breath, seeing rain drops come into vision just before landing and taking blows to his face. The rain melded with his silent cries, but Jacob never noticed- not even the consuming sadness circulating in his stomach.

He did, however, notice the quiet and distant, “Jacob!” that would ring through his ears, bringing an instant cease to his movements and a strong ache to his heart… The bread he was kneading would fall to the wooden board with a resounding thud and his hands would rest softly on the counter. A salty tear would drop off his cheeks and onto the soft dough without notice.

The voice held love and adoration he had always longed for but could not seem to find in anyone. It held warmth and beautiful caresses, it held intimate memories and a broken heart… Whose heart, he did not know.

Jacob began to fear he would never find the love that plagued his never ending dreams, but would only discover it was the silent whisper of a lonely heart. This heart, he knew was his own.

Called the Red String of Fate, it was but only a source of hope for Queenie. She knew that with time, the man she was destined to be with would collide with her once again, finally, as both ends of the string finally met again.

In amidst of this man’s silent struggle, the love he so desperately wanted to discover but couldn’t remember had her own worries weighing her down.

She stared longingly at the man she never planned to forget – never wanted to forget – from just outside his blooming bakery. Unfortunately for Queenie, he could forget… and did forget.

Jacob Kowalski knew something was missing.

He just didn’t know that something was a someone.
